What Happened – January 2

The earliest event that Wiki says happened on this day is “366 – The Alamanni cross the frozen Rhine River in large numbers, invading the Roman Empire” and the most recent is “2006 – An explosion in a coal mine in Sago, West Virginia traps and kills 12 miners, while leaving one miner in critical condition.

A couple other things that also took place on this day are:

1920 – Second wave of the Palmer Raids; over 6000 people are arrested and held without trial for several months. Most of the arrest warrants were issued only because the citizen was a member of a labor union.

2008 – First time oil prices go above $100 a barrel.

Happy birthday to Tia Carrere, Richard Cole, and Jack Hanna.
