What Happened – August 8

It was on this day in 1969 that Iain McMillan stood on a stepladder and took a picture. The subjects were John, Paul, George, and Ringo. The location was outside Abby Road studios. The result ended up being one of the most parodied album covers in Rock&Roll history.  The studio has since installed a webcam on the historical crosswalk.

The first worthwhile event that Wiki says happened on this day is “1220 – Sweden is defeated by Estonian tribes in the Battle of Lihula” and the most recent is “2007 – An EF2 tornado touches down in Kings County and Richmond County, New York State, the most powerful tornado in New York to date and the first in Brooklyn since 1889.

A few other things that also took place on this day are:

1815 – Napoleon Bonaparte leaves for St. Helena, where he will spend the rest of his life in exile.

1974 – President Richard Nixon announces he is resigning from office, effective the next day.

1990 – Kuwait is occupied and annexed by Iraq. Also, American forces began amassing in Saudia Arabia.

Wishes for a happy birthday go out to Willie Hall, Donny Most, Larry Wilcox, Dustin Hoffman, and Mel Tillis.
