The earliest event that Wiki says happened on this day is “533 – Byzantine general Belisarius defeats the Vandals, commanded by King Gelimer, at the Battle of Ticameron” and the most recent is “2010 – A boat carrying 90 asylum seekers crashes into rocks off the coast of Christmas Island, Australia, killing at least 30 passengers.

A couple other things that also took place on this day are:

1791 – Virginia votes in favor of the Bill of Rights, thus ratifying the first 10 amendments to the US Constitution.

1939 – World premiere of Gone with the Wind.
