What Happened – November 11

It was on this day in 1978 that the General Lee made the jump featured at the end of the opening credits for The Dukes of Hazzard. More than 300 different cars, which was a ’69 Dodge Charger, were used during the six-years the show was on the air. At the height of the show’s popularity, the automobile got over 35,000 fan letters ever month.

 

The earliest event that Wiki says happened on this day is “308 – At Carnuntum, Emperor emeritus Diocletian confers with Galerius, Augustus of the East, and Maximianus, the recently returned former Augustus of the West, in an attempt to restore order to the Roman Empire” and the most recent is “2008 – RMS Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) sets sail on her final voyage to Dubai.

 

A few other things that also took place on this day are:

1918 – Germany and the Allies sign an armistice, ending the fighting of WWI.

1919 – Six people are killed in Centralia WA when members of the American Legion and the Industrial Workers of the World clash during a parade.

1926 – US Route 66 is officially established.

    The Edmund Fitzgerald, immortalized by Gordon Lightfoot, also sunk on this day in 1975.
